Just found this great tailgating recipe in Veranda magazine by Danielle Rollins. Maybe it’s
my impending class reunion, or my daughter’s parents weekend, or The Packers playing on
Sunday, or the fact that I just did the Bourbon Tour in Kentucky, this recipe is worth adding to
your own cookbook collection. I’ve got Bourbon on my mind.
Blood Orange Old Fashioned Cocktails
For each cocktail, soak two sugar cubes ( preferably brown ) with a tablespoon of blood
orange bitters in a 12-ounce highball glass. You can do this ahead of time so the sugar
completely dissolves. When you’re ready to serve the drinks, fill each glass with ice and
add a half cup of freshly squeezed blood orange juice, 2 ounces bourbon ( I like
Woodford Reserve ) and a splash of soda. Garnish with a thinly sliced blood orange
wheel. So pretty too!
